Requirements for the letter of no impediment.

Please  email us  a letter stating:

• your name and ID number
• if you were married before – include the date of divorce /  or state that you have never been married before
• mention the reason why you require the letter of no impediment
• also mention why it is so urgent.
• Copy of your ID/passport

 
Processing time:

Home Affairs takes +/- 8-12 weeks to issue a letter of no impediment.

Also know as  a “full marriage certificate”

Home Affairs locates the original marriage registration document to complete the information required for the unabridged certificate.  It contains detailed information on the particulars of the marriage.

When will you require an unabridged Marriage Certificate?

• On application of certain foreign passports e.g. British
• Emigration purposes
• Visas for certain countries

Processing time:

Takes 14-25 working days from submission
Please note Home affairs is phasing out the wording UNABRIDGED to just birth or marriage but still keep the more detailed information on certificates

Expedited option: +/- 15 working days

The costs quoted could vary depending on where the certificate needs to be returned to and how many certificates are ordered.

When applying for certain foreign passports, for example Irish and German, a Vault Marriage Certificate is required. This is a copy of the original “marriage registration” that was submitted to Home Affairs by the marriage officer. This copy is then date stamped and certified by the Department of Home Affairs.

Processing time:

Standard option: 30-40 working days

Expedited option: +/- 15 working days
